A few reminders:

No school Monday September 3rd.

Remember to bring your science donations on the date specified in your email.  If you still would like to donate something, we always need copy paper!

Progress reports will go home Tuesday night.  If you have any questions, feel free to call/email.  I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Our Grandparents breakfast is Friday September 7th.  Details to come.

Frog and Toad Week 1 of 2

Grammar - regular plural nouns (adding s or es)
Writing - friendly letters

A few reminders:

Students will be coming home with Highlights order forms.  If you would like to order, great!  Fill out the sheet and you will be billed at a later time. If you would not like to order, that is fine as well (of course).  Still sign the sheet and return it.  Our class earns prizes for bringing back the forms whether you order anything or not.  Last year we received some great telling time games and foam dominoes to practice math facts.  They have more great games this year, so please help us out!

I plan to have all grades from the week posted by Tuesday of the following week at the latest.  Please check your child's grades weekly and let me know if you have any questions or concerns.  

Dear Parents,

2^nd grade is having a lot of issues with the bathroom lately. Students want to go to the bathroom 5-8 times a day. As a team, in order to get this under control early on, we have come up with a bathroom monitoring system. Each student is given two sticks each day to use the bathroom during class. This is two extra times on top of their morning and lunch recess bathroom times. We are hoping that this will help the students to think before they leave the room and to help them learn to use their bathroom times wisely. When the students are going to the bathroom 5-8 times during class time, they are missing 30-40 minutes of instruction, and since our blocks are only 30-40 minutes of teaching time anyway, you can see why going to the bathroom that many times becomes a distraction from their learning.  We will never deny a student a trip to the bathroom but would like them to think before they are going. We are hoping that this will encourage the students to be responsible with their bathroom times and try really hard to use the recess times as the time for a bathroom break. Again, this is not meant to be a punishment for using the bathroom, just a way for us to track the bathroom usage and an incentive for them to use their bathroom times wisely.

A few reminders:

The back to school Luau is this Friday from 6-8 in the multipurpose room.  Ticket pre-orders will go home Monday in your child's homework folders.  It saves money to order early!

Remember that homework is due every Friday.  Students should be returning 4 spelling activities, a completed reading log, and the math activity for the week.  If they return all 3 things, they will earn a star on their folder.  Anything missing will also be noted on the folder.

Return the Student Handbook Awareness Contract as soon as possible.  It went home today.

Remember to check your child's grades in Jupiter grades at the end of each week.

Back to School Week 1

Curriculum for this week:

Spelling - no spelling test for the first 4 weeks of school (we focus on phonics)

Social Studies - timelines of our life

A few reminders:
Students must have 2 folders (blue, green), a spiral notebook, and a fabric pencil pouch on the first day of school.  The rest of the supplies may be brought in later in the week if necessary.  

We will not have specials on Monday this week, but we will have Music on Wednesday as it is the first Wednesday of the month.

Make sure to return the signature page from the welcome letter, the student information sheet, and the blue health office form as soon as possible.
